What citation style should I use?

Answer

Different disciplines use different citation styles that reflect how research is done within the discipline. For example MLA style is commonly used in English while APA is used in Psychology.

It's best to ask your professor what style they'd like you to use.  If you have a choice, you may want to use either MLA or APA as they are the most commonly used styles by undergraduate students.

Common Citation Styles

MLA: English and Humanities

APA: Psychology and Social Sciences

Chicago (Notes and Bibliography): Arts & Humanities

Chicago (Author-Date): Social Sciences & Sciences

Turabian: All disciplines (Typically only used by undergraduate students)

APS: Exercise Science

ASA: Sociology

CSE: Biology and other Sciences
